Poison is a damaging status effect that can affect animals and mutants.
This article is about the status effect received from poisoned weapons. For the status effect caused by eating poisonous food, see Sickness
Gameplay
The effect occurs when a animal or mutant is hit by poison arrow or by a poison upgraded weapon. Players cannot be poisoned through normal means, even by other players.
Unlike fire, poison can be reapplied while it is active, resetting it's duration.
Effects on Animals and Mutants
When a creature is poisoned, it will appear with a green tint over it. All creatures suffer the following effects while poisoned:
- Animation speed is slowed by 20%. This affects both movement speed and attack speed.
- Damage against players is reduced by 37.5% (3/8ths)
- Damage against buildings is reduced by 50%
- Take damage over time
Damage
Damage amounts and intervals differ slightly depending on the creature.
- Animals: 2 damage instantly, 2-3 damage after 0.5 seconds, then 2-3 damage every 5-6 seconds
- Mutants: 2-3 damage every 3 seconds
- Creepy Mutants: 1-3 damage every 3 seconds
Duration
- Animals: 40-60 seconds
- Most Mutants: 30 seconds
- Cowman: 20 seconds
Duration is reset every time a creature is inflicted with poison.
Effects on Players
In normal gameplay, the player cannot be poisoned by any means. Hitting oneself with a poison arrow, or having another player use a poison upgraded weapon will not poison the player. The only way to be poisoned is through the poison console command.
Poison has different effects on the player to animals and mutants. Here is a timeline of how the player is affected:
Note: All damage dealt by poison ignores Armor
- Instant: Take 4 damage, receive Blood Infection
- 4 seconds: Take 2-3 damage, set INTERVAL to a random amount between 6-8 seconds
- Every INTERVAL seconds later: Take 2-3 damage
Poison on the player lasts 50-80 seconds, chosen randomly when the poison is inflicted.
Trivia
- If the player has a PS4 controller connected (either by playing the PS4 version or using a controller on PC), the light on the controller will turn green when the player is poisoned, and turn blue when the poison wears off.
